Court grants EFCC application, orders final forfeiture of Lagos property to Nigerian government

The application was brought before the court by EFCC’s counsel, H. U. Kofarnaisa, who informed the court that an earlier interim forfeiture had been granted, with the order also published in a national newspaper inviting any interested party to show cause.

Justice Dehinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos, on Friday, April 25, 2025, ordered the final forfeiture of a property to the Federal Government of Nigeria.

The property, situated at 26, Tolu Road, Olodi Apapa, in the Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State, was forfeited after a motion on notice was filed by the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1 of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The application was brought before the court by EFCC’s counsel, H. U. Kofarnaisa, who informed the court that an earlier interim forfeiture had been granted, with the order also published in a national newspaper inviting any interested party to show cause.

“No one showed cause within the 14 days window granted after the publication,”

Kofarnaisa told the court while moving the application for the final forfeiture.

She also informed the court that the application was backed by an affidavit sworn to by Gyal Maina Gapani, an operative of the EFCC.

According to Kofarnaisa, the property “is reasonably suspected to have been acquired with the proceeds of unlawful activities.”

After reviewing the submission, Justice Dipeolu stated that he found merit in the EFCC’s application and ordered the final forfeiture of the property.

The property was finally forfeited to the Federal Government in favour of Sterling Bank Plc
