Former Neptune Prime COO, Amina Alhassan, dies at 56

Veteran journalist and former editor and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Neptune Prime Newspaper, Hajiya Amina Alhassan, has died at the age of 56.

She died on Tuesday in a Lagos cancer hospital after a protracted struggle with mammary cancer.

A family member, Ahman Makams, shared the news of her demise on his Facebook page on Tuesday, May 20, 2025.

Amina, a daughter of a former diplomat, Ambassador Yahya Alhassan, was born on January 27, 1969, and hailed from Niger State. She is an alumnus of Federal Government Girls College, Bida, and she studied at Kuwait English School, University of Maiduguri, and the University of Abuja.

With years of meritorious career in the media industry, Hajiya Amina was a former editor of Neptune Prime, who later became the Chief Operating Officer of the media outfit. She resigned in 2023 following an appointment with the Niger State Government.

Amina was also a former Weekend Editor with LEADERSHIP newspaper and a member of its Editorial Board.

She will be buried today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m., after prayers at the Central Mosque in Abuja.

She is survived by four children, mother and other relatives.
