Nigerian military troops under Operation Hadin Kai have neutralized 10 Boko Haram terrorists in a fierce gun battle during a clearance operation in the Lake Chad Basin.

According to a statement released by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major-General Markus Kangye, the operation targeted terrorist enclaves situated between Rann and Gamboru Ngala along the Nigeria–Cameroon border.

The mission, which was carried out jointly by troops of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Hybrid Forces, and other security agencies, aimed to flush out remnants of Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters.

“The encounter occurred during a combined operation strategically designed and executed to flush out remnants of BH/ISWAP terrorists operating within the border communities,” Major-General Kangye said.

Acting on credible intelligence, troops stormed the hideouts, leading to an intense firefight that ended with the terrorists being overpowered.

The troops recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition, including anti-aircraft rounds, which have been taken in for further technical analysis.

Kangye added that search efforts are ongoing to track down possible escapees and locate additional terrorist hideouts in the area.

“The Armed Forces of Nigeria, in collaboration with the MNJTF, Hybrid Forces and other security agencies, have intensified operational tempo in the Lake Chad Basin and other parts of Northern Borno to eliminate the remnants of BH/ISWAP in the region,” the statement said.
