Nasarawa records 5 suspected cases of coronavirus at Keffi

Nasarawa State has recorded its first suspected cases of the deadly Coronavirus. The management of the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi where the case was reported has taken proactive measures as the centre has quarantined a family of five suspected to be having the virus.

Already, the sample taken from the affected persons has been taken to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for confirmation.

The Medical Director of the centre Dr Yahaya Baba Adamu who briefed the press about the development, however, allayed fears about the seriousness of the disease, saying the symptoms witness on them have subsided, and they are not in bad condition.

In his words, “It is actually our proactive and preventive measures that whenever we see any case that looks like or has a history of the infectious virus, we take the highest precautionary measures. At the moment there is no single confirmed case of COVID 19 in this hospital”.

Dr Adamu continued, “The true story is that we had a family; it was actually one of them that came with the symptom, later we discovered that the entire family members showed similar symptoms and presentation compliant of fever and catarrh.”

According to him, four out of the five suspected persons are responding to treatments and that the centre is adequately prepared as regards rendering services to humanity.

When asked what will happen with health workers that administered health care services to the suspects before the symptoms were discovered, the MD said, “If the awaited result is positive, we will look for the health personnel in question and apply the necessary remedies on them”.
