Three killed, one injured in separate fire outbreaks in Kano

Three people have lost their lives while one other sustained injuries in two separate fire incidents that occurred on Friday in Kano State, according to the Kano State Fire Service.
The agency disclosed the details in a statement issued on Saturday by its Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.
The first incident happened around 1:30 p.m. at Kura Market Junction along Zaria Road, where a petrol tanker carrying 30,000 litres of fuel overturned and exploded. The tanker, registered as NGZ 250 XA, reportedly hit a cyclist before going up in flames.

The statement said the serviceās Emergency Response Unit received a distress call from a retired Civil Defence officer, Danlami Muhammad. Firefighters from the service headquarters were immediately dispatched to the scene.
āOn getting there, our personnel found the tanker completely engulfed by fire. Four people were involved; three were rescued unconscious and later confirmed dead, while the cyclist survived,ā the fire service said.
Firefighters, with support from police and FRSC officials, brought the situation under control. The bodies of the victims were handed over to ASP Ahmad Lawan of the Kura Police Division.

Two fire trucks, one from the headquarters and another from Kura station, were deployed. The cause of the accident is being investigated.
The second incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. at Hamisu Plaza on Maiduguri Road in Taruni Local Government Area, where a fire broke out on the upper floor of a two-storey commercial building.
By the time firefighters arrived, the top floor was already engulfed, resulting in the destruction of three shops. However, the response team was able to prevent the fire from spreading to other shops on the ground and first floors. A fire truck stationed at the ongoing trade fair also responded to the emergency.
