Tinubu nominates 32 additional ambassadors for senate confirmation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forwarded the names of 32 additional ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for screening and confirmation, expanding the list earlier sent to the upper chamber.
The letter conveying the nominations was read on the Senate floor by Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Friday. The new batch comprises 15 career diplomats and 17 non-career nominees, drawn from various states across the federation.
Among the notable non-career nominees are former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode, former presidential aide Reno Omokri, former INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, former Governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and Okezie Ikpeazu, and former Lagos Deputy Governor Femi Pedro.

The career nominees include serving senior foreign service officers and some currently deployed ambassadors slated for reassignment.
According to the presidency, the nominees will represent Nigeria in strategic countries such as China, India, Canada, UAE, Qatar, South Africa, Kenya, and others, as well as multilateral missions including the United Nations and the African Union.
The latest transmission follows an earlier submission of three ambassadorial nominees, marking a major step in the administration’s effort to restructure and strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic corps.

The Senate is expected to commence the screening process in the coming days.
