FG approves 420km highway linking Nasarawa, Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe road
The Federal Government has approved the construction of a 420-kilometre dual carriageway connecting Akwanga in Nasarawa State to Plateau, Bauchi and Gombe states, in a move aimed at boosting regional integration and economic activities.
The development was made public on Sunday by the Director of Information at the Federal Ministry of Works, Mohammed Abdullahi, during a media tour and inspection of the ongoing rehabilitation of the Bauchi–Gombe federal highway.
Abdullahi said the new road forms part of the Tinubu administration’s drive to expand critical infrastructure in line with its eight priority areas, describing the project as a major catalyst for trade, agriculture and mobility.

He revealed that the Federal Executive Council recently approved the dualisation as the fourth component of the government’s legacy highway projects, joining the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway, the Sokoto–Badagry Superhighway and the Calabar–Ebonyi–Abuja Superhighway.
According to him, the legacy routes are designed to connect all parts of the country and will feature modern additions, including solar-powered streetlights and renewable energy infrastructure.

Bauchi–Gombe stretch
Providing an update on the Bauchi–Gombe road currently under rehabilitation, Abdullahi said the intervention covers 35.4 kilometres, with more than 21 kilometres already completed.
He noted that the work has led to a marked reduction in accidents and shortened travel time along the once dangerous corridor.
The director added that the highway remains a strategic link between the North-East and North-Central regions and will significantly enhance the movement of farm produce, goods and services upon completion.

Contractor assures delivery
The Site Manager of Triacta Nigeria Limited, Engr. Joseph Samaha, praised the federal government for the award of the contract and assured that construction is progressing according to approved standards. He pledged that the project would be delivered within the stipulated timeframe.

Emergency flood works commissioned
In a related development, the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has inaugurated emergency repair projects in Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The intervention includes the rehabilitation of collapsed lined drains, installation of three-cell pipe culverts in Konkiyal town and the construction of a concrete-lined drain at Sauke Village.
The projects were commissioned on the minister’s behalf by the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council, Comrade Umar Sa’idu, who said they would help curb flooding in the affected communities.
Sa’idu commended the prompt action of the federal government and urged residents to protect the facilities.

Also speaking, the Federal Controller of Works in Bauchi, Engr. Adamu Bashir, said the initiative is part of 260 emergency projects being implemented across the country to lessen the impact of flooding linked to climate change.
