In an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19, a 19-year-old Jibrin Muhammed, student of Federal Polytechnic Damaturu, invented a multi-purpose electronic hand-washing machine.

Muhammed of Department of Science Laboratory Technology presented and demonstrated how the machine works on Saturday in Fika, at the occasion of Buni-Gubana Youth Empowerment exercise.

He said that what motivated him was that, there was a shortage of hand-washing devices, and the available ones were not efficient to serve different functions of curtailing the spread of COVID-19.

“Hand hygiene, one of the most important measures to avoid transmission of every infectious disease, so I invented this device with special features to minimise chances of spreading COVID-19.

“The device has different units that perform different functions.

“First there is the fumigation section. Because there is always a need to fumigate an area to have a safe environment before is put to work.

“It also has a hand-washing unit, tissue disposal container, sterilization unit with an ultraviolet lamp that kills virus and germs.”, he explained.

In his remarks, Alhaji Idi Gubana, the Yobe State Deputy Governor, commended the boy and said the state government would always encourage and support such talents.

Alhaji Gubana represented by Muhammed Dantsuwa, the Deputy Speaker Yobe House of Assembly also distributed ten units of tricycles, several units of grinding and sewing machines to the people of Fika Local Government Area.
