Potiskum Private Schools Proprietors decry proliferation of schools, seek government's aid

National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Potiskum Local Government Chapter of Yobe State has expressed concern over the increasing establishment of unregistered private schools in the area.
The chairman of the NAPPS, Alhaji Usman Sale disclosed this to newsmen shortly after the 2017 Private Schools’ Day Celebration held at Ciroma Ibrahim School, Potiskum.
He said the emergence of such schools in the area could pose great challenge to the advancement of education in the state.
“You know we are operating a democracy and erroneously, some people think they are free to do what they want without following due process”, the chairman said.
He explained that his association has initiated moves so as to carry everybody along for the development of the education, but that such people always resist.
According to him “We have over 50 private schools here in Potiskum town who are faced with financial constraints, yet we are not deterred from providing services to compliment the efforts of the state government.
“As I am speaking to you now, we are lacking access to grants and loans from the government. We are not able to access loans from Banks, simply because most of the private schools do not have government recognition to operate”.
The chairman also blamed parents for their Inability to pay their children’s school fees timely “refusing to acknowledge that it is from the school fees that we sustain our routine services”.
He then appealed to state government to consider them in accessing SME grants.
In a communiqué released after the meeting, the association called on the Yobe State Government to check the unnecessary establishment of private schools so as to provide quality education to the teeming populace.
