Borno Gov’t introduces new taxes to boost IGR

The Borno State Government has introduced three new taxes in the transport and business sectors to boost its economy.

According to the state government, the Consumption, Entertainment, and Presumptive Tax (CEPT) are to raise the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

While announcing the adoption of the new taxes yesterday in Maiduguri, the Chairman, Board of Internal Revenue Service (BIRS), Mohammed Alkali, disclosed that new technologies had been deployed in revenue and tax collection to plug leakages in the formal and informal sectors of the economy.

He noted that the 2021 harmonised revenue law had been passed by the House of Assembly.
