Yobe State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has suspended its 55-year old member, Uche Friday Uche over the reporter’s unruly behaviour of sexually molesting Aisha, a 5-year old girl in Damaturu.

According to a statement from the council’s chairman, Rajab Mohammed, the indefinite suspension is to ensure the law takes its full course against the suspect and to also serve as deterrent to any member of the Union who intends to indulge in such a despicable act.

The statement further added that the Journalists’ governing body, known to be at the forefront in the fight against Gender Based Violence would never shield its member from facing the full wrath of the law.

Uche Friday Uche, Yobe State correspondent of the Peoples’ Daily newspaper, has been remanded in Potiskum correctional facility after failing to fulfill his bail conditions.

The 55-year old Uche is currently standing trial at Injiwaji Magistrate Court, Damaturu, for allegedly molesting a 5-year old daughter of a military officer in Damaturu, the Yobe State Capital.
