Some Chibok schoolgirls and a number of other victims kidnapped by Boko Haram have escaped from their captors’ den Thursday evening, according to local reports.

A source who confirmed the development to newsmen, said, “They are many and not only Chibok girls, they are made up of a variety of women abducted by Boko Haram terrorists.”

Halima Ali is one of the girls believed to have escaped five years since the escape of her sister Maryam according to a source.

Halima was allegedly married off to a commander under the instruction of Abubakar Shekau a few months after their abduction from their boarding school in Chibok.

It was also reported that some parents of the victims were contacted by officials handling the girls and that they might be invited to Maiduguri.

Similarly, when contacted, the Secretary, Chibok Parents Association, Lawal Zannah,  confirmed that some of the girls had escaped but had not yet ascertained the number.

“We heard that some of our girls have escaped from the forest, but we are yet to get the details about their number,” Zannah said.

Meanwhile, the Boko Haram’s factional leader, Abubakar Shekau has called on the newly appointed Service Chiefs to repent and convert to Muslim, noting that they cannot perform better than their predecessors.

President Muhammadu Buhari had on Tuesday appointed, Major-General Leo Irabor, Chief of Defence Staff; Major-General I. Attahiru, Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral A. Z. Gambo, Chief of Naval Staff; and Air-Vice Marshal I.O Amao, Chief of Air Staff, as his new service chiefs following criticisms from Nigerians that the former ones had exhausted their plans.

However, in new audio Shekau called out the names and the roles of the new service chiefs and asked them to repent because they can’t do anything to destroy his terror gang.

“Leo Irabor, the head of the military, you should have sympathy for yourself, repent and convert to Islam. There is nothing you can do,” Shekau said.

He said Maj-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru should not deceive himself because he has a Muslim background.

“Even if you are Muslim but you conduct polytheistic practices, you are no longer a Muslim,” Shekau said.
