Niger State Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello has signed two bills into law.
According to Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mary Noel-Berje, the two laws are:
- Law to provide for the Niger State Violence Against Persons (prohibition) and for other connected matters thereto;
2. Law to provide for Premarital Medical Examination in Niger State 2020.
Governor Sani Bello performed the constitutional duties at the Government House, Minna in Niger State.
Speaking after the signing of the bills, Governor Sani Bello described the two laws as significant.
The Governor noted that with the two laws, particularly the law on Gender-Based Violence Against Persons, all relevant agencies and committees connected with gender-based issues will now have legal backing in carrying out their responsibilities.
He appreciated the State House of Assembly members for critically looking into the bills to ensure that they passed through all the necessary legislative procedures.
The bill to provide for the Niger State Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) law and for other connected matters, which is said will help curb the increasing cases of Gender-Based Violence in the state, was sponsored by Hajiya Binta Mamman, a member representing Gurara Constituency in the Assembly.
Shaibu Liman Iya, a member representing Suleja Constituency, sponsored the bill to provide for Pre-marital Medical Examination in Niger State 2020, aimed at ensuring that all necessary pre-marital examinations are carried out before marriage in the state.
