Another attempt by bandits to kidnap aviation workers in the staff quarters of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) at Kaduna Airport has been foiled by the military.
The incident occurred barely two weeks after the kidnap of about 13 staff, including a staff of NAMA and his entire when the bandits attacked NIMET.
Newsmen learnt the foiled attempt on Sunday morning was not without a gun battle between the bandits and military personnel.
A source said the bandits gained access into the quarters through porous sections of the airport airside leading to runway 23 / 05.
On gaining access to the quarters, the bandits were reported to have headed straight to their alleged target flashing touch lights to locate their way to his apartment.
But, a distress call prompted the intervention of the military, which engaged the bandits in a gun duel forcing them to escape.
Worried over the development, workers in the junior and senior quarters are leaving the quarters to look for secured accommodation outside the airport environment.
In another rescue mission in Kaduna by Nigerian troops, The Kaduna State government has explained how a combined team of Air force and the Nigerian Army personnel foiled attempt to kidnap students from a secondary school.
Details were given by on Sunday by Samuel Aruwan, the State Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs in a statement.
The commissioner said, No fewer than “307 students were rescued unhurt” by troops who foiled the attempted kidnap,” according to Aruwan.
“Between the late hours of Saturday night and the early hours of today, suspected bandits stormed the Government Science Secondary School, Ikara, Ikara local government area, in an attempt to kidnap students.
“Fortunately, the students utilized the security warning system in place, and were thus able to alert security forces in the area. The security forces comprising the troops of the Nigerian Army, Police and some security volunteers moved swiftly to the school and engaged the bandits, forcing them to flee.
“The military and police are still on the trail of the armed bandits.
“Following a head count by the school management, the Kaduna State Government can confirm to you that all 307 students have been verified safe and present. The attempted kidnap was foiled completely and no student was taken from the school.
“The images provided by the Nigerian Army can attest to this, and will be shared with you.”
