Facts to know about the Yobe born newly appointed IGP

President Muhammadu Buhari has announced the appointment of DIG Usman Alkali Baba as the Acting Inspector General of police.

According to the Minister of Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, the appointment takes immediate effect.

Here are a few facts about the newly appointed IGP:

Alkali Baba Usman was born in 1963 and hails from Geidam, Geidam Local Government of Yobe State. He attended Teachers College, Potiskum, Yobe State graduated 1980, holds a BA (Ed) in Political Science from Bayero University (BUK), Kano and Masters in Public Administration from University of Maiduguri.

The new IGP joined the Nigerian Police Force in March 1988 and has gone through the ranks and was in Ilorin as an Area Commander. He was the second-in-command in Ebonyi, He was also an Assistant Commissioner, CID in Kaduna and before then was DPO (Divisional Police Officer) in various places like Yola, Gombe, Kaduna, and Jos.

He also served as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 5 Benin, Zone 4 Makurdi, Zone 7 Abuja, Commissioner of Police FCT and Delta Commands amongst others.  He was also the Ag. DIG in charge of Finance and Administration and the Force Secretary.

He is a fellow of the National Defence College and a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, an intellect in investigation, insurgency and counter-terrorism, including traffic management and has held several strategic positions in the past.
