The Director General of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has warned corps members to desist from journeys without the authorization of NYSC.
Kazaure while on a tour to Edo state noted that many corps members have lost their lives to roads accidents while embarking on unauthorized journeys.
The NYSC boss, who was represented by the acting director, corps welfare and inspectorate, Mrs. Josephine Okonghae, while inspecting facilities in the state, urged corps members to desist from rejecting their postings in order to settle down and contribute their quota to the development of the respective communities.He urged them to shun unauthorized journeys to avoid road accidents so that their precious lives could be preserved.
He advised that should there be any need to travel out of their primary places of assignments, they should take permission from the authorities concerned.
“I am talking about journey. I want to appeal to you, after going home to bring your things and settling down, please, try as much as possible to remain in your locations. We lost many Corps members as a result of accidents. There is no need for you to undertake unnecessary journey. Please, try as much as possible to limit your journey.
“Also, obtain proper permission before you embark on your journey because there are sanctions for not doing so,” he said.
The NYSC Director-General who commended the Corps members for their prompt adjustment to camp life, urged them to take advantage of the skill-acquisition and entrepreneurship development programme made available at the camp seriously so that they could be self-sufficient, rather than waiting to get the white collar jobs that are not there.
He also warned them against posting unverifiable information on the social media which could lead to undue tension in the society, warning that any one caught in the act would face severer sanctions from the Scheme.
Earlier, the State Coordinator, Mr. Abdullahi Yusuf Baba, while presenting the 1,920 members of the 2017 batch “A” stream II to the D-G, said the Scheme has enjoyed a cordial relationship with the Governor of the State.
He disclosed that the Governor has given a marching order for the completion of the building of the NYSC permanent camp at Okada and the renovation of the NYSC Zonal Office at Oredo Local Government Area of the State.
Abdullahi also noted that efforts were being made to make camp life meaningful to the Corps members during the three-week orientation exercise.
