A kidnap suspect who was in coma for nine days after taking a substance suspected to be tramadol, has died while in police custody.
The suspect was arrested by the police after his attempt to commit the nefarious crime was foiled when he fell asleep as a result of high intake of the highly sedative substance.
Since then, the suspect has remained in coma till he gave up the ghost last Monday.
Confirming the suspects’s death, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ondo State command, Mr Femi Joseph, said the suspect died at Owo general hospital where medical personnel tried to save his life in vain.
“The suspect died nine days after we arrested him. We thought he would be revived so that he could help us in our investigation.
“Unfortunately, he died yesterday (Monday). This could be connected with the high intake of tramadol which he took.
“We are using this opportunity to further educate the public, especially parents, to monitor their wards and the kind of company they keep, ’’ he said.
The suspect was caught when he made a botched attempt to kidnap a staff of Chinery Pharmacy in Owo township.
