Nigerian Gov’t set to provide 10 million gas cylinders across country

The Nigerian Government is set to inject over 10 million gas cylinders of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) into circulation in the country.

This will be done through collaboration with the relevant stakeholders in states across the country.

Accordingly, it would also plan to create a micro refilling distribution centre across each state to increase the affordability of the commodity at the home of every Nigerian.

The Managing Director of Nigeria Petroleum and Gas, Nigeria Limited, Alhaji Musa Ibrahim Abubakar, stated this on Tuesday at a 2 days awareness campaign program organised by LPG in Bauchi.

He said the objectives of the sensitization and enlightenment campaign was to encourage the use of gas and reduce the use of local firewood to reduce the rate of deforestation and environmental pollution on health hazard and difficulty of breathing in people lives.

He further explained that the Nigerian government is also making efforts to achieve development towards targeting the 9.0 on Global Carbon Cleaner Energy of Sustainable Development Goal and United Nation agenda.

He said that the LPG is also going to make arrangements for a franchise in each of the 36 states to touch the lives of 250 million Nigerians in positive ways.

In his speech, the Senior Special Adviser to the President on LPG and also the Program Manager, Mr Dayo Adeshina said the Nigerian government is highly desirous on improving the low utilization of gas and discourages the use of local charcoal in the country.

He said deforestation has been for many years affecting our environment which causes a great effect on our lives day by day of difficulty in breathing and pollution.

The SSA, further explained that Bauchi State is one of the pilot state-approved on the LPG project by the President, and will create more jobs, clean health lines and reduction on environmental pollution.

In his keynote address, Governor Bala Mohammed, who was ably represented by his Deputy, Senator Baba Tela, said the program was a timely one and the Bauchi government is ready to partner with the LPG program to achieve its desired goals by proving the most needed support.

He appealed to the LPG to make provision for adequate gas cylinders product available to people in the market to reduce dependency on local products and increase the use of the gas by people.

The Governor also called on the LPG to take the awareness campaign down to the rural dwellers with a view to educate and enlighten them more on the benefits of using the gas instead of the local firewood.

He said: “I believe the development will add profit through direct and indirect job opportunities, improve on food security, create more revenue generation”.
