Governor Mai Mala Buni and Chairman, APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), has made a lot of sacrifices to keep the governing party, APC united. Whatever anyone may say he has made history. Governor Buni knew the challenges in rebuilding the APC, yet he sacrified his comfort for repositioning the party. What an uncommon loyal party man who wants the best for his party.
Its on record that since his appointment as the Chairman Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, by the 8th resumed meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC), Governor Buni has not rested. Its work and work everyday. He has devoted all his time, energy and resources for the unity and cohesion of his party. The APC is now waxing stronger and stronger.
Governor Buni’s bold steps in the pursuit of progressive party reforms is cast in the mold of defining sagacious political strategies that have set the tone for positive and progressive thinking so badly needed to reposition the APC.
The sacrifice he has made will not be in vain. It has been noted by all progressives across the country as an act of great party loyalty and patriotism. We all appreciate the position he has taken and the sacrifice he has made so far. There are lessons to be learnt from all that is unfolding towards repositioning APC, ahead of the national convention and the 2023 general elections.
This is noted by the party and Nigerians. Governor Buni has demonstrated the true spirit of progressives. He has indeed shown the way to all other party members on the kind of sacrifice expected of them. He is a good example to all our party men and women, the young and old and the leading lights of our great party.
Governor Buni secured the wish of a virile section of our great party, especially his colleagues, governors and other critical stakehokders, who meant well in their desire to have him go for the best, and excited by his magic wand, most party members looked in his direction hopeful in the prospects of his leadership and a new APC. But rather than pursue a selfish ambition, he humbly submitted himself to the service of the party. Whatever anyone may say, Governor Buni has made history.
Today, the APC has become stronger with over 40 million plus registered members that asserted our position as Africa’s largest and Nigeria’s leading progressives political party. Governor Buni has brought strength to our party through a political profile that is unrivalled. Having attracted three sitting governors to join and several other heavyweights, former governors, serving Senators and House of Representatives members, the widespread support he enjoys across party ranks validates him as a great leader for our generation and a political asset for our great party.
Undoubtedly, Governor Buni’s sacrifice for the cohesion of the party and a greater Nigeria, would go down in history as one of the greatest pragmatic and progressive political sacrifices ever made in the politics of the country.
Governor Buni has demonstrated to all that after the political calculations are made and the dust of competition has settled, it must be this great party that shall stand. Therein, we find the lessons of his decision to go for the best and only the best for the APC.
He has demonstrated that his political convenience will never triumph over patriotic conviction. He no doubt accepted the job of rebuilding APC not to advance any personal ambition. His work in this delicate moment gave no space for emotion to intrude into the path of objectivity and blind him from what is best. The APC is the best vehicle to enact the progressive and broad change this nation cries for. We salute Governor Buni for eagerly lending himself to this great assignment of repositioning APC.
Though many, including our party leaders, may call what Governor Buni has done a sacrifice, but some will call it otherwise. It is a patriotic contribution and duty. With a happy and uplifted heart and clear conscience, he has, by this great accomplishment committed himself to seeking the best for our great party before seeking what is good for himself.
This is the creed of statesmanship and it will surely be the creed of our party. May the light of a bright future always shine on His Excellency Governor Mai Mala Buni, and on our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
