Abducted Imo State traditional ruler found dead with one leg removed

Gunmen suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have abducted and killed the traditional ruler of Otulu Amumara autonomous community in Ezinihitte Mbaise local government area of Imo State, Eze Joe-Benz Ochulor.

Eze Joe-Benz Ochulor was found dead with one of his legs severed from his body less than 24 hours after he was abducted from his palace.

An indigene of the area, Frank Nwaete, told newsmen that the late monarch was discovered along the Chokoneze-Mbutu Road in Aboh Mbaise local government area of the state but with one of his legs chopped off by the assailants suspected to be IPOB fighters.

Eze Ochulo, who until his death was the Olu 1 of Otulu-Amumara, was whisked away from his palace by gunmen on Saturday, November 25, 2023.

The attackers had invaded the traditional ruler’s palace shooting sporadically, a development that scared away villagers, who scampered to safety.

Until the discovery of the monarch’s corpse, the Ochulo family had earlier waited for a call to pay ransom.

Already, the entire Mbaise community has been thrown into mourning as villagers were apprehensive and scared of their safety even as some have called for measures to ensure everyone’s safety.
