Abducted medical students plead for help after 48 hours without food

The 22 medical students abducted on the Otukpo-Enugu Highway have reached out for help, revealing they have not eaten for 48 hours while their captors demand a ransom of N50 million. The students, who were on their way to a convention in Enugu, have been subjected to severe physical and psychological distress.

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has launched a rescue operation involving helicopters, drones, and specialised personnel to recover the students. The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), and Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia have condemned the abduction and called for their immediate release.

The students, from the Universities of Jos and Maiduguri, were abducted on Thursday evening while traveling in two buses. The Benue Medical Students Association (BEMSA) has released a list of the victims, including Boniface Tizhe, Thomas Yahaya, and several others.

One of the students, Aondona Kingsley, has appealed for assistance via social media, highlighting the urgency of their situation. The police have mobilised substantial resources to secure their safe return, and the NMA has urged for swift action from authorities.
