Abuja labourer in court for stealing handbag from accident scene
A Dei-Dei Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja remanded a labourer, Abubakar Saminu, who allegedly stole a handbag from an accident scene.
The police charged Saminu, a resident of Tipper Garage, Byazhin, Abuja, with conspiracy and theft. Despite pleading not guilty, he was ordered by Judge Saminu Suleiman to be kept at the Suleja custodial facility until August 29, when the case will be heard.

According to Prosecutor Olanipekun Babajide, the incident was reported by Juliana Samuel of Kubwa, Abuja, at the Kubwa Police Station on July 1.
It was reported that the defendant, along with three others at large, conspired to steal Samuel’s handbag at an accident scene on Dantata Bridge on Arab Road, Kubwa. The stolen handbag contained Samuel’s phones worth N68,000 and other valuables.
Fortunately, the defendant was pursued and apprehended while attempting to escape, although the others managed to flee with the handbag and its contents.
During police investigation and interrogation, the defendant allegedly confessed to the crimes. Unfortunately, efforts to recover the stolen items were unsuccessful.
The offenses committed by the defendant contravene the provisions of Sections 97 and 288 of the Penal Code.
