Accidental Bombing: Air Chief sends investigators to Zamfara
Air Chief Marshal Hasan Abubakar has dispatched a high-level fact-finding team to Zamfara State following reports of civilian casualties during a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) operation.
The accidental bombing occurred in Kakindawa village, Maradun Local Government Area, reportedly resulting in the deaths of 16 vigilantes who were responding to bandit attacks in neighbouring Tungar Kara village.
In response, the Zamfara State Government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state have expressed condolences to the families of the victims.
Air Vice Marshal Edward K. Gabkwet, leading the NAF team, will engage with state and local government officials and other stakeholders to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

NAF spokesperson AVM Olusola Akinboyewa stated, “Concerned about the reported incidence of civilian casualties in the recent NAF airstrikes in Zamfara State, the CAS, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has dispatched a fact-finding team to Zamfara to fully investigate the incident and provide a detailed report for further action.”
He added, “The CAS wishes to reiterate the NAF’s commitment to the highest level of professionalism and transparency in the conduct of operations, in line with appropriate global standards.”
This incident follows a similar accidental bombing in Sokoto State during Christmas, highlighting the need for enhanced operational procedures to safeguard innocent civilians during military operations.
