Ageless Love: 100-year-old vet marries 96-year-old bride

In a heartwarming ceremony, American World War II veteran Harold Terens, 100, tied the knot with his sweetheart Jeanne Swerlin, 96, near the D-Day beaches in Normandy, France. The couple’s collective age of nearly 200 years made their nuptials a remarkable celebration of love and life.

The wedding took place at the elegant town hall of Carentan, a key location in the D-Day landings that saw fierce fighting in 1944. The town was festooned with flags and bunting, and veterans were feted like rockstars on the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings.

As swing music filled the streets, well-wishers lined up outside the town hall, dressed in WWII-period clothes, to witness the happy occasion. A pipe and drum band serenaded the couple as they exchanged vows and rings. Terens declared, “With this ring, I thee wed,” to which Swerlin giggled and gasped, “Really?”

The couple toasted to “everybody’s good health, peace in the world, the preservation of democracy, and the end of wars in Ukraine and Gaza.” The crowd cheered “la mariee!” as Swerlin, dressed in vibrant pink, and Terens, dapper in light blue with a matching pink kerchief, clinked glasses and drank.

Terens called it “the best day of my life,” while Swerlin quipped, “It’s not just for young people, love… We get butterflies. And we get a little action, also.” The couple’s love and joy were palpable, proving that love truly is eternal.
