Alakija donates ₦34bn, medical research, training hospital to Osun State university

Nigerian billionaire businesswoman, Folorunso Alakija, has constructed and donated a ₦34 billion medical research and training hospital to Osun State University.

The facility, named the Modupe and Folorunso Alakija Medical Research and Training Hospital, was officially inaugurated on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, by former Nigerian Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

The ultramodern hospital is equipped with 250 admission beds, 20 clinical departments, and five non-clinical departments. It also boasts a community health unit, maternity and neonatal care services, advanced research and diagnostic laboratories, and four world-class operating theatres.

In addition, the hospital features cutting-edge diagnostic imaging systems—including CT scan, MRI, ultrasound, and X-ray machines—as well as radiotherapy suites, 16 intensive care units, and an ophthalmology department.

The facility is expected to significantly advance medical research, promote quality healthcare delivery, and provide hands-on training opportunities for students and healthcare professionals in Osun State and beyond.
