Anambra banker killed after ransom payment

A female banker, identified as Ifeoma, was tragically murdered by suspected kidnappers in Anambra State, despite her family having paid a ransom for her release.

Ifeoma was reportedly abducted in Onitsha and held captive for several days before the kidnappers contacted her family and demanded a ransom.

A family source, who wished to remain anonymous, confirmed the news on Tuesday, revealing that an undisclosed sum was paid to the captors. However, in a heartbreaking turn of events, she was not released, and her body was later discovered along the road.

Her corpse was found near Ideani Junction, along the Nnobi-Alor Road in Idemili South Local Government Area, even though the kidnappers had already received the ransom.

The family source stated, “Her body was discovered near Ideani Junction, even though the kidnappers had collected the ransom. She had been taken from Onitsha, and after a few days, the kidnappers contacted her family for payment. Unfortunately, they later found out she had been killed.”

It is believed that the kidnappers may have murdered her to silence her in case she recognized them. The family is devastated by the tragic loss.

Anambra State Police spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident, stating that the corpse had been recovered from the scene. He added, “The police received a report about the discovery of an abandoned female body along the Nnobi-Alor Road, believed to have been dumped by suspected kidnappers. The body has been retrieved, and the investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of her death.”

In a separate matter, the police have expressed their willingness to cooperate with victims who were recently released from abduction, including two Catholic nuns and another individual. Ikenga urged these individuals to come forward for debriefing to aid in the investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.

He added, “The Anambra State Police Command remains committed to collaborating with the victims of these abductions to gather crucial information for the investigation. We are dedicated to improving security in the state to ensure the safety of all citizens and prevent further criminal activities.”

The police have also announced plans for enhanced security operations in the state to combat crime and maintain public safety.
