Anambra police arrest suspected IPOB member, recover guns in Ogbaru criminal raid
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 43-year-old man believed to be part of a kidnap, robbery, and car-snatching syndicate operating in Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area.
The suspect is also alleged to belong to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), according to a statement issued on Thursday by the command’s spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga.
Ikenga said officers of the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu carried out the arrest during an early-morning operation on Wednesday. The raid led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, a pump-action gun, two AK-47 magazines, 88 rounds of ammunition, two face masks, and a pair of gloves.

The breakthrough followed the confession of another gang member in custody, who disclosed that the arrested suspect was responsible for safeguarding the gang’s weapons after each kidnapping operation. The suspect also reportedly admitted to receiving a share of ransoms collected from abducted victims.
Ikenga noted that the suspect is cooperating with investigators to track down other fleeing members of the syndicate and recover more arms
