APC expels Aregbesola over anti-party activities

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially expelled former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, over allegations of engaging in activities against the party.

Aregbesola, who served as governor of Osun State for eight years, had led a faction within the APC known as The Osun Progressives (TOP), which has since been rebranded as the Omoluabi Caucus.

The faction was accused of contributing to the party’s defeat in the 2022 governorship election. On Sunday, the Omoluabi Caucus, led by Aregbesola, announced its decision to part ways with the APC, citing the party’s declining popularity in Osun State.

A letter obtained by this newspaper, titled “Allegations of Anti-Party Activities – Conveyance of State Exco Decision to You,” formally communicated Aregbesola’s expulsion.

The letter states that after an investigation, the State Executive Committee (SEC) reviewed the findings of the Disciplinary Committee and resolved to expel Aregbesola due to his actions, which were deemed to have undermined the unity and integrity of the party in violation of Article 21 of the APC Constitution regarding member conduct and discipline.

The letter further directed Aregbesola to cease presenting himself as a member of the APC or acting on its behalf in any capacity. While acknowledging his past contributions to the party, APC has urged him to comply with the expulsion.
