Armed herdsmen kill nine in Benue communities

Despite the deployment of massive security personnel, suspected herdsmen yesterday afternoon attacked two communities in Benue State killing nine farmers.
The attacks and killings took place in Ayilamo, Tombo ward in Logo local government area and Jato Acka, in Kwande local government area.

The armed herdsmen numbering over 20 stormed the sleepy town of Jato Acka in broad daylight and shot sporadically, killing six persons in the process.
The murderous herders thereafter moved to Ayilamo town in Tombo ward through Ikyungwa axis and killed three persons including personnel of Livestock Guard.
A community leader, Tyovenda Igyutu, told journalists that but for the quick intervention of soldiers and police, Ayilamo town would have been completely razed down.
In Jato acka, Lawrence Akerigba, a youth leader who confirmed the attack and killings said” the invaders stormed the town at about 4 pm on Friday and set houses ablaze. People were shot and killed.”
Benue Police Command said it was yet to get any report regarding the attacks.
