Police witness tells court over 200 armed men stormed Yelwata with AK-47 rifles
A police witness has told the court that more than 200 armed men carrying AK-47 rifles stormed Yelwata community during a violent attack that left several residents dead and properties destroyed.
The witness, who testified during proceedings, said the assailants arrived in large numbers and opened fire indiscriminately, causing panic as villagers fled for safety. According to the testimony, the attackers operated in a coordinated manner and overwhelmed local resistance before security reinforcements could arrive.

Yelwata, a community in Benue State, has experienced recurring security challenges linked to armed attacks and communal violence in recent years.
During the hearing, the police officer detailed how security operatives later visited the scene, recovered spent ammunition, and documented extensive damage to homes and farmlands. The court was also told that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend those responsible.

The case continues as prosecutors seek to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and the individuals allegedly involved.
