Army kills four militia members, recovers weapons in Taraba operation

Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have killed four armed militia members and recovered a cache of weapons during a security operation in Usmanu Village, Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The operation followed renewed communal clashes linked to long-standing land disputes between the Shomo and Wurkun communities. The Army said the deployment was based on credible intelligence indicating a resurgence of hostilities that had resulted in armed confrontations and the burning of houses.

Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
According to the statement, the troops came under fire shortly after arriving at the troubled community, leading to a brief gun duel that left four militia members neutralised. A search of the area led to the recovery of three dane guns, a fabricated AK-47 rifle, 25 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and two motorcycles.
The Army also confirmed the arrest of a police officer allegedly found operating alongside the armed group. The officer is currently undergoing investigation to determine his level of involvement.
Commander of the 6 Brigade and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their swift response and professionalism. He reaffirmed the Brigade’s commitment to restoring peace in the area, vowing to sustain operations aimed at flushing out criminal elements across Taraba State.

He urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information, assuring that the military remains dedicated to ensuring lasting peace and stability.
The Army also called on communities to remain calm and report suspicious activities as it continues ongoing operations under Operation Peace Shield, Operation Lafiya Nakowa and Operation Zafin Wuta.
