ASUU-YSU calls off indefinite strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Yobe State University (YSU) Branch, has officially called off the indefinite strike action it embarked upon on 11th July 2025.
The strike, which lasted for over two weeks, was aimed at pressing for the resolution of long-standing issues between the union and the Yobe State Government.
The industrial action was driven by unresolved concerns, including:
(a) Non-implementation of the 35% and 25% wage award for professors and other academic cadres, effective from January 2023 to date.
(b) Partial implementation of the ₦70,000 minimum wage from January 2024 to June 2025.
(c)Relegation and stagnation of promoted staff at Step One by the Ministry of Finance
(d) Non-payment of promotion arrears spanning from 2018 to 2025.
(e)Lack of postgraduate facilitation and supervision allowances.
(f)Non-payment of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) for the 2023/2024 academic sessions.

According to reports, ASUU-YSU presented six key demands to the state government, all of which were approved by His Excellency, Hon. Dr. Mai Mala Buni , except one, which remains under discussion. In response to the resolutions, staff of Yobe State University experienced significant increases in their salaries — with some receiving increments of over ₦120,000.
Yet, ASUU-YSU continues to push for more demands so that members can fully reap the benefits of the listening ear extended to them by His Excellency. Alhamdulillah , this morning, His Excellency agreed to settle all outstanding issues, including granting an additional one step ahead for all members—meaning even more substantial salaries for the university community.
In light of these resolutions, the union has called off the strike with immediate effect and has directed all members and students to resume academic activities without delay.
This decision marks the end of a period of academic uncertainty, anxiety, and frustration experienced by students of Yobe State University, paving the way for a return to normalcy on campus.
