Iran, Saudi Arabia warn of “Dangerous Consequences” if regional tensions escalate

Iran and Saudi Arabia have jointly warned that any further escalation of tensions in the Middle East could have “dangerous consequences” for regional peace and stability, in a development reflecting growing concern among key powers as geopolitical strains intensify.

In a phone conversation between Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, both sides emphasised the shared responsibility of regional nations to prevent conflict and preserve security. They discussed broader developments affecting the region and expressed alarm at the risks posed by rising tensions.

According to the official accounts, the ministers underlined that escalation could undermine peace and stability and stressed the need for collective efforts to avoid actions that might trigger wider confrontations. Their discussion reviewed themes raised earlier by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman about the dangers of heightened military pressure and threats.

Iran has been vocal in rejecting talks with the United States under conditions it views as threatening, arguing that negotiations should be based on mutual respect and free from military threats. Iranian officials have called for diplomacy that addresses regional security concerns without coercion.

The diplomacy between Tehran and Riyadh comes amid broader regional unease sparked by increased U.S. military presence and sustained diplomatic friction, with both Iran and Saudi Arabia signalling that further escalation could destabilise not just the Middle East but have wider international implications.

The warning from the two capitals reinforces a message shared by other Gulf states that any unchecked escalation—whether military or political—carries serious risks, including threats to economic stability, security cooperation, and the balance of power in the region.
