Atiku’s son defects from PDP to APC, endorses Tinubu’s second-term bid
One of the sons of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
Abba Atiku was received on Thursday at the National Assembly by Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, alongside top APC leaders from the North-East geopolitical zone, where the younger Atiku announced his decision to align with the ruling party, citing the need to support what he described as ongoing efforts to strengthen governance and national development.

He said his decision was based on personal conviction and a belief in the direction of the Tinubu-led administration, stressing that Nigeria requires unity and continuity to address its economic and security challenges.
Political observers say the move is significant, given Atiku Abubakar’s position as a leading figure in the opposition PDP and a former presidential candidate.
The defection has sparked reactions within political circles, with APC supporters hailing it as a boost for the ruling party, while PDP loyalists downplayed its impact, insisting it does not reflect the former vice president’s political stance.

Later on at the National Assembly complex, the gathering announced the renaming of Abba’s political platform from Haske Atiku Organisation to Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation, signalling a complete realignment of its structure and mission in support of Tinubu’s re-election bid.
As of the time of filing this report, Atiku Abubakar has not publicly commented on his son’s defection.
