Babban Gida records high success in ITN Card distribution as residents express appreciation
The distribution of Insecticide Treated Net (ITN) token cards in Babban Gida, the Headquarters of Tarmuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State, has recorded impressive progress, with a large number of residents receiving their cards.
Confirming the development, the Assistant Health Promotion Officer (AHPO) of Tarmuwa, Malama Fatima Muhammad, commended the smooth conduct of the exercise and the commitment of health workers involved.
The exercise is going on smoothly, and the number of cards allocated to the area is sufficient to cover a large portion of the population,” Fatima said.
“Many women visit the Primary Health Care Centres (PHCCs) daily to collect their ITN cards, and the cards are readily available.

She praised the distributors and authorities for their dedication to ensuring full coverage across all wards in the local government, describing their efforts as “commendable and well-coordinated.”
A YBC reporter who visited Anguwar Mammodu and Tsohuwar Kasuwa in Babban Gida, as well as Bakin Kasuwa in Biriri village, observed that the exercise was ongoing and had reached a significant number of households. While some houses had already been numbered and issued cards, others were still awaiting their turn.
A resident of Babban Gida, Malama Fatima, expressed satisfaction with the progress, noting that public awareness of the importance of ITNs and Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) had increased remarkably.
People here now understand the benefits of ITNs and SMC. Many come from far and near to get registered. The available cards are enough to cover all targeted beneficiaries, she said.

According to data from the Cycle 4 Coverage Report of Tarmuwa Local Government, the area has achieved remarkable success in both ITN distribution and SMC implementation. Out of the 30,698 children targeted for SMC, a total of 25,358 have been reached. Similarly, 15,869 individuals have received ITNs out of 18,701 registered households, representing an 85% coverage rate.
The Malaria Consortium Yobe, in collaboration with the Global Fund, Catholic Relief Foundation (CRF), National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), and State Primary Health Care Management Board (SPHCMB), continues to intensify efforts to combat malaria — a disease that remains a leading cause of maternal and child mortality in the state.
The provision of ITNs and SMC drugs remains a vital component of the state’s integrated malaria prevention strategy aimed at safeguarding public health and achieving malaria-free communities across Yobe State.
