Bandits in Zamfara demand N4 million ransom for abducted NYSC member

Suspected bandits in Zamfara State have demanded a N4 million ransom for the release of one of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were abducted.

The incident occurred when eight NYSC members were traveling in an Akwa Ibom Transport Company (AKTC) bus from Uyo, Akwa Ibom to Sokoto State for their mandatory National Service. Their vehicle was intercepted on the highway.

Emmanuel Etteh, the father of one of the victims named Glory Thomas, confirmed this development during a telephone conversation on Friday.

Etteh stated that the bandits contacted him using their phone number to inform him about his daughter’s abduction and demanded N4 million for her release.

As of now, the Zamfara State police command has not commented on the abduction. However, a military source has confirmed the bandits’ ransom demands to News Point Nigeria.

This source mentioned that a rescue team is currently searching the forest to safely recover the victims.

Meanwhile, the Director General of NYSC, Brigadier-General Yushau Ahmed, has suspended his routine camp tour to focus on ensuring the safe release of the Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) who were kidnapped on their way to Sokoto State for their orientation program.
