Following the recent arrest of one Malam Ibrahim Aliyu, the former husband of a female practicing journalist in Adamawa State, Nafisa Vandi, for wife battering and assault, the legal case earlier filed against him has been withdrawn.
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) being the complainant in the case explained in a statement that it had obliged the request from the victim in the case, her parents, some religious leaders, and prominent citizens in the state to withdraw the case for alternative resolution.

In a press statement signed by the state secretary of NUJ, Mr Fedelis Jockthan, on behalf of the state chairman, Comrade Donald Dedan, the union explained that the action was necessitated by passionate appeals from various sources considering the peculiar nature of the case.
The statement noted that the suspect who also regretted his actions and has shown remorse agreed to meet various conditions set aside by the victim as the case is to be handled at the family level.
The union expressed special appreciation to the Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, Mr Sikiru Akande Kayode, for exhibiting a high level of professionalism in the course of the case.
It further acknowledged and expressed gratitude to various Non-Governmental Organisations, and individuals for their support during the initial process of the case.
