Bauchi gov’t partners WEC on women empowerment programme

The Bauchi state government says it is working in partnership with the Women Economic Coalition (WEC) to fast-track the implementation of the Women Economic Empowerment (WEE) project in the state.

WEE project is being implemented in collaboration with the Partnership for Advancing Women in Economic Development (PAWED).

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Hajiya Hajara Gidado, stated this during an advocacy visit by Women Coalition, on Tuesday in Bauchi.

She said part of the mandate of the ministry was to promote the welfare of women and children, adding that the state government remains committed to the progress of women in the state.

“Therefore, I assure you that the ministry will partner with the coalition on the implementation of the WEE project in the state,” she said.

The Commissioner reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring increased budgetary allocation and prompt release of funds for women’s economic empowerment programmes.

Mrs Pharis Obidah, State Coordinator, PAWED, said the project is aimed at advocating increased budgetary allocation and releases of funds for the WEE project.

Also, Mrs Monica Tanko, Focal Person, Rahma Women Development Programme, a Bauchi-based NGO, described the partnership as a welcome development, adding that it would enhance quality service delivery and effective communication on development programmes.

She urged the state government to disseminate and simplify the budget to the understanding of citizens to mobilise participation in its processes.

According to her, the WEE project will make a positive impact on the lives of women in the state.
