Bello Sambo, first Nigerian with PhD in Railway Research

As a first-class scholar of Electrical Engineering, he was so good that Huddersfield had to retain him for global projects.

He is the brain behind Newark WR Study Processing and Stimulating Design.

Bello Sambo was born in Kano State but raised in Kaduna. He graduated from Zamani College in 2007 with an outstanding WAEC result.

He then proceeded to the Eastern Mediterranean University in Northern Cyprus where he studied BSc in Electrical Electronics and graduated with a First Class degree.

Thereafter, he served the NYSC as a site engineer at the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.

However, from 2013 – 2014, he went for his Master in Engineering Control Systems and Instrumentation at The University of Huddersfield, U.K, and PhD at the same university from 2014 – 2019.

He also started work with the Institute of Railway Research (IRR) of the University of Huddersfield in 2018 to date.

Based on his stellar performance in his Master’s degree programme, he was advised and offered a tuition scholarship for his doctoral research programme at The Institute of Railway Research, University of Huddersfield.

According to Sambo, he had paid lots of sacrifices to be where he is now.

“Due to long hours immersed behind the screen or publications, when it comes to my relationship with others, I think the inevitable traces of social anxiety, with little interest in frivolity (fashion, celebrity, entertainment) caused me to lose contact with most friends,” he said in an interview.

“The biggest challenge of being in such a specialist discipline is the ability to remain patient and work persistently hard to interlock the civil, electrical mechanical and computing aspects of my daily activities as a researcher. Of course, there is the constant race to meet project deadlines before time and below budget to keep clients happy,” he said.
