Benue governor restructures cabinet, replaces chief of staff, commissioners

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has officially dissolved the State Executive Council.

The announcement came at the close of the council’s 12th meeting this year, where Governor Alia informed members that their terms had come to an end.

This was confirmed in a statement released on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, in Makurdi.

Governor Alia has asked all commissioners to promptly hand over their responsibilities to the permanent secretaries within their ministries.

He expressed gratitude to all the commissioners who have served alongside him over the past two years, encouraging those who may not be reappointed to stay engaged in the party.

According to him, this change opens up opportunities for fresh faces to contribute to the state’s progress.

In a related development, the governor has named Moses Atagher as the new Chief of Staff, replacing Paul Biam.

Mr. Atagher is a respected legal expert who previously served two terms as Benue’s Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.

He also brings experience as a former acting managing director of the Federal Mortgage Bank.

Speaking for the outgoing commissioners, Bemsen Mnyim, who served as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order, thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve, reflecting on their time in office as a valuable learning experience.

“At every stage in life, wherever you are called to serve is a school,” Mnyim remarked. “We have learned a lot during our time working with you.”
