Boko Haram, ISWAP unleash renewed raids on communities in Borno, Yobe
Suspected Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters have launched coordinated assaults on five communities across Borno and Yobe States, targeting military and civilian locations.
The affected areas include Mafa, Dikwa, Marte, and Ajiri in Borno State, as well as Katarko in Yobe State.
Security sources said the insurgents first attacked a military checkpoint in Mafa before advancing to overrun a nearby military barracks, seizing weapons, ammunition, and newly procured operational motorcycles.

“The number of attackers was overwhelming. They looted our weapons, ammunition, and motorcycles used for operations in remote areas,” a military source disclosed.
Although details of military casualties remain unclear, a senior security official confirmed that several insurgents were killed during the confrontation. “They came in large numbers and engaged our men, but many of them were neutralised,” the source added.
Local residents reported that no civilian lives were lost, but the terrorists looted food items, set vehicles ablaze, and disrupted night movements.
“It was a coordinated attack around 11 p.m. They shot sporadically at the checkpoint where travellers were waiting for the military gate to open,” a local witness said. “The goods they looted were meant for transportation to Gambarou and nearby towns.”

The attackers reportedly arrived in four gun trucks and over 100 motorcycles, heavily armed. Similar raids were reported in Dikwa, Marte, Ajiri, and Katarko, suggesting a coordinated offensive across the region.
