Borno female lawmaker distributes relief items to members of her constituency

A Member of the Federal House of Representatives from Borno State, Honourable Dr. Zainab Gimba after spending less than 2 years as NASS member, who is also the state’s lone female lawmaker, has on Thursday, July 9, 2020, distributed 118 vehicles and 200 tricycles to her constituents to ease transportation problems.

In her efforts to bring succour to the traumatized people of her constituency, Gimba, who represents the people of Bama/Ngala and Kalabalge Federal Constituency also distributed 800 sewing machines, 400 grinding machines, and 492 Water Pump machines to women and farmers bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 2010 members of her constituency devastated by the Boko Haram insurgency as livelihood support.

On Thursday, his Excellency, the Executive Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum was the Special Guest of Honour, as Dr. Zainab Gimba, Hon. Member representing Bama/Ngala & Kalabalge Federal Constituency flagged off the distribution of empowerment materials to her constituents at the Multipurpose Hall of the Government House in Maiduguri.

Governor Babagana Zulum said ”this is the largest intervention that any individual has ever distributed. I commend you, Hon. Gimba, for supporting members of your constituency, Bama and Kalabalge are the most hit by the insurgency, I commend you for the livelihood programme which will greatly help in rejuvenating their livelihood”.

“Dr. Zainab Gimba has been doing a lot for her constituents and this singular act will go a long way at alleviating the sufferings of her displaced constituents. The government and people of Borno are very happy with her and we pray that Allah will continue to protect her,” Zulum said.

The governor urged the beneficiaries to put the items to good use, so that they will not only be self-reliant but help others.

In her welcome address, the Hon. Member disclosed that she is distributing 118 vehicles, 200 tricycles, 800 sewing machines, 400 grinding machines, 492 water pumps as well as cash donations to the widows and widowers in her constituency in other to alleviate their suffering and enable them to regain their means of livelihood.

Hon. Gimba stated that her aim of reaching out to her constituents is geared towards emancipating them from poverty after many of their belongings had been destroyed by Boko Haram terrorists.

“Today’s empowerment is a continuation of a series of genuine efforts to support 2010 fellow citizens who elected me to represent them at the National Assembly.

”You know most of the people of my constituency have lost everything as a result of Boko Haram insurgency, the 118 vehicles is to assist our transporters, the sewing machines to our tailors, the grinding machines to our mothers in the food and nutrition businesses while the water pumps to our farmers to revive their farming activities, while the cash of N1 million each to two members of the constituency who lost their lives and have large families, N500,000 and N400,000 to another two members of my constituency who lost their lives and have a lesser family, as well as N100,000 each to 72 late members of the constituency to support their families”.

Hon. Gimba said ”I have also trained over 200 youths in various skills, secured jobs to 13 graduates in my constituency, in addition to drilling of 18 boreholes through Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We are also working hard to support the Borno state government in the resettlement process by discussing with security agencies, military and other relevant bodies.

“It’s my sincere hope that the beneficiaries of this empowerment programme will utilize it judiciously to create more job opportunities and means of livelihoods, thereby empowering hundreds and thousands of other constituents,” Hon. Gimba said.
