A 30-year-old businessman, Francis Elijah, has been arraigned before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday for allegedly assaulting a man with a broken bottle.

He mentioned that Elijah unlawfully assaulted Blessed David by stabbing him with a broken bottle on his head and face.

Leo recounted that the incident occurred when the defendant was assaulting a tricycle driver, and the complainant intervened to stop the altercation.

He explained that Elijah redirected his aggression towards the complainant for intervening, ultimately causing harm.

The prosecutor detailed that the defendant also pushed the complainant into a gutter, resulting in a dislocated ankle.

The offense violated the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017. Despite this, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

In his pronouncement, Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel granted the defendant bail in the amount of N200,000, with two sureties of equivalent sum.

He specified that the sureties must be employed and provide evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Kaduna State Government.

The Magistrate has adjourned the case for further proceedings.
