Chidimma Adetshina wins Miss Universe Nigeria 2024

Chidimma Adetshina, representing Taraba State, has been crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2024. The 23-year-old emerged victorious after defeating 24 other contestants in the grand finale of the beauty pageant held at Eko Hotel and Suites on Saturday night.

Adetshina, who recently made headlines for withdrawing from the Miss South Africa pageant due to a controversy over her Nigerian heritage, captivated audiences throughout the competition, securing the highest number of votes. Her victory at the pageant cements her place as a leading figure in Nigerian beauty and culture.

As the newly crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, Adetshina will represent the country at the Miss Universe 2024 pageant, set to take place later this year in Mexico. She succeeds last year’s winner, Mitchell Ikachukwu, and will carry the mantle of Nigerian beauty and excellence on the global stage.

Other winners on the night included Miss Anambra, who was named the first runner-up (Miss Supranational), and Miss Ondo, the second runner-up (Miss Lush). Special awards were also presented, with Miss Oyo winning the top model award, Miss Imo receiving the best costume award, and Miss Abuja taking home the best talent award.

Adetshina’s journey to the crown was not without challenges. Her withdrawal from the Miss South Africa pageant came after her mother was accused of fraud and identity theft by the South African Home Affairs ministry. The controversy sparked xenophobic attacks against Adetshina on social media, which ultimately led to her decision to step back from the competition for the safety and well-being of her family.

Despite these challenges, Adetshina’s resilience and poise have shone through, earning her the prestigious title of Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 and a chance to represent her country on the world stage.
