Church Collapse: 2 dead, others injured during service in Taraba

A church building has collapsed in Taraba State, killing two persons and injuring many worshippers. The church, Holy Ghost Church, is located in Chanchanji community, Takum Local Government Area of the state.

Confirming the incident, the Chairman of Takum council, Shiban Tikari said The worship centre has been brought down by a heavy downpour that lasted for several hours, describing the incident as a big tragedy, he said the victims were trapped under the rubbles after the church collapse with no apparent help.

Also reacting, a former Supervisory Councilor of Chachanji ward, Mathew Adega, who also confirmed the incident, said the two victims are male and female.

The deceased persons identified as Demenege James and Mwueze Terzunwe were said to be worshipping in the church in Peva village before the building caved, killing them on the spot.

Tikari disclosed that the injured victims have been rushed to the community primary health care centre, where they are receiving treatment.

This came barely one week after the local government council was submerged by flood, which kept travellers stranded for several hours.
