Story by Sa’adatu MAINA, Damaturu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Primary Election Committee has officially announced Alhaji Baba Malam Wali as the party’s flag bearer for the 2027 governorship race in Yobe State.

The declaration took place at the Banquet Hall inside the Government House in Damaturu, following the final tally of votes from all 17 local government areas across the state.

Muttaqha Rabe Darma, who serves as both the Chairman of the APC Yobe State Governorship Primary Election Committee and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, stated that the entire process was carried out under tight oversight from party officials, key stakeholders, and representatives of each aspirant.

According to the committee’s official data, 254,013 valid votes were recorded statewide. Baba Malam Wali secured a commanding victory with 236,711 votes, comfortably outperforming six rival candidates.

Below is the complete breakdown of results:

· Baba Malam Wali – 236,711
· Abubakar B. Kagu – 9,748
· Bashir S. Machina – 1,894
· Hamidu A. Mohd – 1,722
· Modu Ma’aji – 1,371
· Yunusa Mustapha – 1,176
· Inusa Mohammed – 1,148

At the collation centre, Minister Darma officially declared: “The candidate is hereby returned as the party’s governorship nominee.

“The certificate of return, signed by the ballot chair and secretary, was issued on May 22, 2026. Darma then invited party leaders and distinguished dignitaries to join him on stage for the formal presentation of the certificate to the winner.

In his acceptance speech, an elated Alhaji Baba Malam Wali praised the primary committee for overseeing a transparent, peaceful, and well organised exercise across Yobe State.

He also thanked key APC stakeholders in the state for their steadfast support, which he said was instrumental to his victory, and promised to unite all party members ahead of the general election.

“This is a victory for our great party and for the people of Yobe State. I extend my hand of partnership to all aspirants, both those who supported me and those who opposed me. Together, we will ensure the APC’s triumph in 2027,” Wali stated.
