Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano state on Sunday inaugurated 704 constabulary police who graduated from the Kaduna Police Training School.

During the inauguration which took place at the Kano Pillars Stadium, Sabon Gari, Ganduje promised to get a total of 4,400 Constabulary men in due course for the state, all in an effort to allow the state to continue with the peaceful atmosphere.

He said, “We are determined to secure our state to the best of our ability. This set of 704 is the first set in the series of 4, 400, that we aimed to achieve in due course. We always seek Allah’s help in this effort.”

After congratulating them for the completion of the two months of training, he reminded them that, “Security is a challenge in the country. We, therefore, designed a number of programs and projects to face the challenge.

“I congratulate you for finishing your training successfully. You are able to endure all the physical training and all the protocols attached to the training,” he said.

Governor Ganduje assured that his administration would not relent in its effort in promoting state security through community policing, adding that, “We take community policing very seriously. Security is the business of everybody.”

Kano, according to the Governor, has committees in different stages of the society, which are aimed at making stronger, community policing strategy … “and we are sure there is a good flow of information at all levels.”

The stages of the community policing committees, as enunciated by his administration, are that of the village committee, ward committee, local government committee headed by district heads, emirate committee headed by an emir of that emirate and state committee headed by the secretary to the state government.

While urging them to work hard and contribute their share in keeping the state secured and peaceful, he ordered them “to work closely and in harmony with all the security agencies in the state.

“Your work is not any different from theirs. Therefore it is necessary for you to make sure that you put your hands together with all other security agencies and promote a peaceful atmosphere in the state.

He promised to give them allowances to help them in the effective discharge of their assigned responsibilities.

“Yours is voluntary work. But we are designing some allowances for you. Another set of 100 people will be going for training, as a second batch of the exercise,” he disclosed.

In the concluding part of his remarks, he revealed that, when there is an opportunity for recruitment in any of the security circle, they (constabulary) would be regarded first, before any other consideration, urging that, “We should all continue to thank Almighty Allah for securing our state.”

In his remarks, the Commissioner of Police, who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Sule Balarabe, appreciated the state government for the effort.

“It is of good note to also appreciate the community policing committees set up by the state government. It goes a long way in keeping the state peaceful at all times.

While these constabularies are doing their best in helping the Command achieve a lot of things in the security of the state, we are therefore calling on you to keep the momentum,” he advised.
