Consumed by guilt, ex-policeman takes own life after committing murder
Disturbed by the guilt of murdering his family members over a land dispute, a former police officer has committed suicide in Lagos.
The ex-officer, identified as Charles Atideka allegedly killed two family members and another person over long land dispute.
This happened at Yovoyan community in the Badagry area of Lagos State at about 2:am on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.
Following lingering battle over the family land, the ex-law enforcement officer attacked and shot dead the victims who were identified as Richard Atideka and Latevi Atideka, both from the Yovoyan community and Muji Onilude from the neighbouring Gberefu community.

Confirming the incident and the latest development, the spokesperson of the Lagos state police command, Benjamin Hundeyin said the suspect ended it all after commiting the crime.
He added that Charles consumed harmful substances, which knocked him out and made him unconscious.
He was pronounced dead after being rushed to the hospital.
“The man who is the suspect in the incident is dead. He killed three people and allegedly took poison after committing the act.
“He was thereafter rushed to the hospital, where the doctor confirmed him dead. His corpse and those of whom he killed have been deposited in the morgue,” he said.
The PPRO added that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
