Tragedy strikes Thailand as crane collapses, kills 32 people
At least 32 people have been confirmed dead following a devastating accident in Thailand, where a construction crane collapsed onto a moving passenger train, authorities said on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in Nakhon Ratchasima Province when the crane, operating at a construction site along a major railway corridor, suddenly fell onto a train travelling through the area. The impact caused several coaches to derail, leaving passengers trapped beneath mangled metal and debris.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, with rescue teams working for hours to free survivors and recover bodies. Officials said dozens of passengers sustained injuries, some of them critical, and were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Preliminary findings indicate that the crane was part of an ongoing infrastructure project near the railway line. The exact cause of the collapse remains unclear, but authorities have launched a full investigation to determine whether safety regulations were breached.

Thailand’s transport authorities expressed condolences to the families of the victims and pledged compensation and support for those affected. Senior government officials also ordered an immediate review of safety measures at construction sites located close to rail lines.
The disaster ranks among the deadliest rail-related accidents in the country in recent years and has sparked renewed concerns about construction safety and oversight as rescue and recovery operations continue.
