The Executive Governor of Gombe State, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, has thumbed up the effort of his Delta State counterpart, Dr Ifeanyi Okwa’s efforts in raising the level of sport in the state.
Dankwambo, who was at the newly-built Stephen Keshi Stadium over the weekend to inspect the newly built edifice, said it was a beauty to behold and wished more could be done about sport in the country and how to make the best of it in every aspect.
Dankwambo, who was invited by Okowa, was conducted around the stadium by the chairman of the local organising committee (LOC) for Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) meet tagged ‘Asaba 2018’, Chief Solomon Ogba.
Dankwambo’s first point of call was the equipment room where the tourney’s Head of Technical Affairs, Yussuf Alli, showed him and his entourage the world-class equipment procured for the continental track and field event.
After his tour was completed, Dankwambo gushed that he was unsurprised at Okowa’s strides, having known him over the years as one whose works speak for him.
Also, Dankwambo called on other governors to emulate Okowa, as he would do so in his state, in order to leave a sport legacy for the state’s teeming talents.
Okowa, in his response, thanked his Dankwambo for the visit and commended Ogba for speeding up work and delivering on his promise.
Okowa said he was happy to see the level of commitment being put to ensure that his state hosted an enviable African championship that would raise the bar on the continent.
Fifty-four African countries are expected at the 21st African Senior Athletics Championship scheduled for August
